European Council Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic called on Ukrainian parliamentarians not to vote on the language law in the pre-election period, but to consider the law after the election.
The Commissioner noted that different language groups should be effectively involved in the development of such laws and policies, and their views should be duly taken into account.
“In the context of the election campaign, such discussions often become polarized and don’t contribute to the adoption of balanced solutions. I urge the Ukrainian parliament to postpone the adoption of this important legislation until the post-election period,” Dunja Mijatovic called.
