Petro Poroshenko signed a decree appointing Serhiy Kryvonos as the Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. By the way, recently Krynnovos has withdrawn his candidacy from the elections in favor of the acting president. Should we connect the dots or not? Read in reactions from DUMKA.

Petro Poroshenko noted that in National Security and Defense Council, Serhiy Kryvonos will deal with the rearmament of the Armed Forces and other military formations, military-technical cooperation, and interaction with NATO.

Serhiy Kryvonos himself, commenting on his appointment, decided to first explain why he had withdrawn his candidacy from the race. According to him, “betrayal and an unclean game behind the back were revealed.” The Colonel stressed that he “drew out the bluff on time” and after analyzing everything, he decided to refuse to participate in the elections. Kryvonos also confirmed that he met Poroshenko and, in fact, thanked him for the appointment.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov supported the new appointment, assuring that the knowledge and experience of Kryvonos should provide effective work. In particular, Turchinov is confident that the colonel will be able to destroy the corruption component.

Roman Kulyk, a blogger and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, emphasized that such an appointment though late, however, is a good step taken by Poroshenko. However, how long Kryvonos will hold on to his post depends exclusively on the results of the elections.

But the blogger Borys Nemyrovsky believes that such an appointment can positively affect the ratings of Poroshenko. In any case, it’s better than dozens of congresses and even more billboards.

Political analyst Pavlo Nuss emphasized that this is one of the best personnel decisions for the entire term of the current president.

Instead, political scientist Mykola Spiridonov suggested that the appointment of Kryvonos is simply the result of a barter due to which he had previously withdrawn his candidacy in favor of Poroshenko.

Military expert Sviatoslav Stetsenko assured that Poroshenko had decided on such a step for the sake of additional “points” before the elections. But why Krivonos needs this, an expert doesn’t understand, because the post is purely advisory.

Diplomat Bohdan Yaremenko reminded that in the case of appointing Kryvonos as the deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, he, according to the rules, should be dismissed from the military service.

Yuriy Bohdanov, a counselor to the head of the Dnipro Regional State Administration, agreed that this appointment could be a long-planned political-technological step, and indeed an agreement for open support in the elections. However, the author stressed: remember the past of Kryvonos when he commanded the defense of Kramatorsk airport for two months, so the appointment of the colonel could be hardly called “underserved”.

Myroslav Hai, a blogger, volunteer and coordinator of the “Peace&Co” foundation, positively evaluated the compromise between the president and Kryvonos, although he added that the colonel “comes into the field, which is very different from his usual”.

Instead, the attorney and veteran of the ATO, Kyrylo Sergeyev, said that he doesn’t care about the reasons for this appointment since the more important question in the fact whether Kryvonos can justify the hopes that are pinned to him.
