In 2018, Belarus exported $ 50.36 million worth of coal to Ukraine, which is 798 times more than in 2017. The volume of anthracite exports from Belarus to Ukraine over the year increased to 307 times and amounted to 8.82 million dollars. The relevant data is exposed in the official report of the State Statistics Service of Belarus. At the same time, in the data of the Ukrainian State Statistics Service, coal imports from Belarus are not reflected at all, writes Hromadske.
It is noted that coal deposits in Belarus are few, and they are represented mainly by brown coal. Anthracite in Belarus does not exist at all. Consequently, the only source of this coal could be its purchase in other countries.
According to the journalists of Radio Liberty, coal could have entered Belarus from mines in the temporarily occupied Donbas. In particular, this coal is bought by DTEK, Rinat Akhmetov, and the state company Centrenergo, which was planned to be privatized at the end of 2018.
