Well, let’s go for victories? Today a really important vote took place in the Verkhovna Rada, as a result of which the Constitution fixed the irreversibility of the strategic course of Ukraine to acquire full membership in the European Union and NATO. The President of Ukraine stressed that NATO is about security, not only military, but also about citizen security, the protection of rights and freedoms. Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the task of the membership in the EU and NATO is absolutely real, and just as we have achieved big goals, in which no one believed, we will be able to ensure the realization of this goal. Because we go our own way.
Subsequently, the President added that Ukraine is ready to join NATO, because over the past four years we have not just revived the Ukrainian Army, but raised the level of training and equipment to the standards of the member countries of the alliance.
Andriy Parubiy, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, assured that he spoke of the need for Ukraine’s membership in NATO back in 1989, when the struggle for the independence of Ukraine was taking place. Therefore, today’s vote is really historic, because it determines the future of our country. And at the same time, it is also our duty and civilizational choice.
Volodymyr Groysman, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, also noted that the Parliament today was able to demonstrate unity and the ability to make fundamental decisions for the country.
According to the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko, the initiative of the President was supported not by 334 People’s Deputies, but 335, since the card of one of the People’s Deputies wasn’t operating. In any case, the main thing ‒ the Parliament was able to unite.
According to political expert Olesya Yakhno-Belkovska, this initiative of Petro Poroshenko is a significant element of his European and Euro-Atlantic strategy, which the President has been implementing since 2014. Actually, therefore, Moscow is trying to remove him from power, and for the sake of this, according to the expert’s opinion, Kremlin is ready to contribute to any other candidate.
Moreover, Yakhno-Belkovska is convinced that the inclusion of the norm on Ukraine’s course towards the EU and NATO in the body of the Constitution forms the highest level of legitimacy of future appeals of Ukraine to the EU and NATO institutions about our country’s admission to these organizations.
Diplomat Bohdan Yaremenko, in his turn, believes that changes in the Constitution will not be able to influence the position of those states that are not ready now to consider the issue of inviting Ukraine. The author of the message is convinced that such a position is not due to a misunderstanding of Ukraine’s intentions, but the fact that these states do not consider our country ready for membership or do not assess such changes positively in the context of their own security issues.
Political technologist Oleksii Holobutsky stressed that NATO is the only guarantee that an aggressive neighbor will not be able to repeat its previous tricks, otherwise it will face not only the Ukrainian Army but also the forces of all advanced democratic states.
The expert stressed that the adopted changes actually cut off the path to retreat, and then it will be impossible to reverse this decision. Actually, our country finally has a strategy: today we know exactly where we are going.
People’s Deputy Serhii Berezenko also noted that from now on, no politician and no government will be able to change the course of Ukraine, so we can be proud that this course to the EU and NATO membership is irreversible.
People’s Deputy Olena Sotnyk assured the readers: they will forget a lot, but this decision of the Parliament will remain in the history textbooks. Even if someone promoted on this, someone was afraid to vote, and someone does not fully understand the value of the decision. The main thing is that it happened, and the signal went around the whole world.
And a little more good news for today from Myroslav Hai: Dnipropetrovsk region was renamed to Sicheslavsk, they made currency legislation’s easing, and the Russians were forbidden to be observers at elections in Ukraine. And indeed, it was a beautiful day today!
