In the Transparency International rating on the state’s vulnerability to corruption, the Corruption Perceptions Index, Ukraine gained only 2 points in 2018, which allowed it to rise by 10 positions. At the same time, corruption in Ukraine remains the worst in Europe after Russia, UNIAN reports.
“Such a result is not in a line with the declared desire of our country for rapid European integration, reforms and clearing of corruption in all spheres of life. If the situation with corruption in Ukraine continues to change at such a pace, then it will take more than a decade to overtake Poland, “Transparency International Ukraine executive director Andrii Borovik said.
It is noted that the growth of Ukraine’s indexes in the rating was due to improved business valuation of the corruption situation in the country. In particular, entrepreneurs appreciated the introduction of a system of automatic refund of VAT, expansion of the system Prozorro, etc.
At the same time, Transparency International has criticized the process of checking candidates for positions of judges, the work of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and the continuation of the work of the police, the SBU and the Office of Public Prosecutor with economic crimes.
