The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Political Affairs and Democracy has approved all amendments to the resolution on the situation in the Azov Sea and Kerch Strait, in particular, the status of Ukrainian seamen seized by Russia as “prisoners of war” has been approved. This was announced by Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Herashchenko, Hromadske writes.
“All Ukrainian amendments proposed to the political committee are supported. As for the main one – the status of sailors as prisoners of war – the resolution will have the wording that they fall within the definition of the Geneva Convention, which determines the status of prisoners of war,” Herashchenko wrote.
In the previous version of the draft resolution, their status was determined as “seamen”.
It should be noted that all 24 Ukrainian sailors seized by Russia have declared to Russian investigation that they are prisoners of war.
