Letter to Saint Nicholas

Dear Saint Nicholas!

…I don’t know if I was polite enough this year, probably not, or maybe so. When you are an adult, it is difficult to find at least some uniqueness.

In childhood everything is simple, if you cleaned your room ‒ well done, you’re a polite kid. If you called Olenka a “frog” and used swear words in the presence of grandmother ‒ bad and impolite kid. And in adulthood, sometimes to be polite you have to quarrel with hundreds of other’s grandmothers, call someone a frog, and also have time to wish the worst end to one foreign leader. And against this background, cleaning the room is almost thing.

Politeness, in today’s life, is almost always a fuss. Indeed, in the concept of politeness, they put submissiveness and non-violence. Where would we be if we continued to mindlessly bear everything? Perhaps, only thanks to those glorious ignorant ones, who take upon themselves the strength and will to defend Ukraine at all fronts, I have the opportunity to write in Ukrainian, speak Ukrainian, raise a child, who do not know any other answer to the question “Who are you?”, and responds without delay ‒ “I am Ukrainian”. Where would we be if impatient ignorant people didn’t start expelling Moscow priests?

Nicholas, I don’t know whom they serve. I don’t even know if there are those among them, whom one can open his or her soul to, so that instead of the heart, “KGB manuals” were not discovered in there? But so much anger, so many years of horror and deception from their camp… this is definitely not the act of Great God. Or maybe I’m wrong?

Doubt. When you become an adult, you immediately begin to doubt… Save your hair or wear a hat, because treating sinusitis is a very expensive and unpleasant pleasure? Olena did a bad deed, because the life circumstances were so, or in anger? Where to put your anger when you read the dry numbers of the report on environmental protection, and you are getting lock-jaw? Whom to believe and whom to trust? Are you somewhere there in the other dimension, Saint Nicholas, or those are marketing experts who have also invented you? I rather did not believe. I even doubted my own thoughts and decisions, because I have to do work on some mistakes. For this, I need to understand where and when I made the wrong move.

I cannot be objective to myself. That is why you are, there from your greatness, decide yourself, to whom I belong and what should you put under my pillow that night. But, if you suddenly decide that I was polite enough and you will bring me a gift…

Bring me the strength of the spirit. I don’t know what it will be, but this war is not only for our territory and our people, it is for our souls and our thoughts, so give me that fortitude to be quite stubborn and persistent in this fight.

Give me belief. Belief in myself and belief in people. I was very tired of being disappointed so that I am no longer fascinated. Only individual actions of good people return the belief that this world is beautiful and worth fighting for.

And give us peace. But not that peace, where compromises seize and stifle and persecute from all sides. Give us that peace, where the enemy is at least aware of his baseness and meanness. The peace ‒ when it and its colleagues will be punished. The peace, in which people can return home. The peace, with unequivocal good and unequivocal evil. The peace that unites people and gives them strength and hope.

The peace, where even I will understand what real politeness is.

Yours, who_knows_polite_or_not, me.
