Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in his letters to the predecessors of the UOC-KP Filaret and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Macarios asked them not to nominate themselves for a head of the Local Ukrainian Church. This was stated by the head of the UAOC Makarios in an interview with Radio Liberty.
“We signed an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch for the provision of Tomos, I immediately announced that I would not nominate my candidacy. God sent me such a good idea because in October, the letter came with the signature of the Ecumenical Patriarch, it probably came to Patriarch Filaret also, so that we are not nominated for the vote – neither one nor the other,” he said.
