President Petro Poroshenko apologized for the fact that in 2014 he announced the imminent end of the anti-terrorist operation in the Donbas. He said this on August 23 in the Dnipro during the celebrations for the Day of Ukrainian Flag, Ukrainian Pravda writes.
“More than four years ago, I said that Antiterrorists Operation would finish for hours and not months, now it’s not so important in what context these words were said, nor is the imagery of this statement important, people took it as an opportunity to end the war very, very quickly,” said Poroshenko. “I regret giving high expectations, I sincerely apologize that I inspired you with hope, it did not come true, I’m sorry that I made a promise, I did not justify it. I ask for forgiveness for this: this is a serious lesson for me to take the careful and responsible attitude to my words and promises,” the head of state added. According to him, “from the very beginning, it was necessary to aim everyone for a long and exhausting struggle to liberate every scrap of Ukrainian land”.
