Today, July 16, it will be 28 years since the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Ukraine. According to the president, this document has become an impulse for Ukraine’s path to independence. More on the important date – in reactions from DUMKA.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that now our course is aimed at European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and is steadfast. Petro Poroshenko also admitted that he believes in the European future for Ukraine.

However, the journalist and publicist Larysa Voloshyna tied this day to the possible accords of Trump and Putin on Crimea.  According to her, our task is to prevent treason and conspiracy not outside the ocean, but here, because Ukraine exists until we defend its integrity and sovereignty.

Instead, former MP Roman Bezsmertny focused his attention on adoption of the Declaration on Sovereignty. On the anniversary of the document’s adoption, the author of the post decided to appeal to the current MPs, urging them to take an example from those patriarchs who with confidence and talent navigated the state between July 16, 1990 and August 24, 1991. Thanks to them that the train named “Ukraine” managed to keep its track and go ahead.

The lawyer Vitaliy Kolomiets recalled that the Independence Day was officially on July 16. Back then at the first anniversary, officials, according to that day’s order of the state holidays’ celebration, brought flowers … to the monuments of Lenin.

Oleh Bai, the first advisor to the embassy of Ukraine in Russia, recalled the adoption of the Declaration. As well he recalled people from “Velyky gurt” (large group): Ivan Plyushch, Gorin brothers, Iryna Kalinets, Lev Lukyanenko and Vyacheslav Chornovil.

People’s Deputy Yulia Tymoshenko hasn’t ignored this topic as well. In her opinion, this day is the creation day of the new political nation on the map of modern Europe. It is in the same declaration that forms and proclaims the principles that soon will form the basis of the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine. It wasn’t without a drop of poison. Tymoshenko criticized the fact that this day is secondary to the other public holidays.

Here we have Oleg Lyashko, who decided to add a little bit more than one drop of the same poison. According to his post, Ukrainian people did not get genuine economic and political freedom. And why is it so? Because our children … “choke on Argentinean apples, ill ones are killing themselves with Indian pills, and a part of the population rides on Korean bikes on the roads built by Turks”. Well, at least we have our own cows, am I right, Mr. Lyashko?
