The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution demanding the immediate release of all Kremlin’s political prisoners. This decision was supported by 77 MPs, the other 15 abstained. Resolution concerns Ukrainians who are illegally detained in separate districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in annexed Crimea and in Russia. Further information – in reactions from DUMKA.
MP Leonid Yemets was one of the first to support the resolution. In the comment section below his post he explained: the adoption of a resolution means official recognition that our guys are political prisoners who are detained illegally. From now on diplomats can operate this fact.
Volodymyr Ariev, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, emphasized that thus, Russia was pointed out again at its crimes. Alongside this fact, post’s author commended the whole Ukrainian delegation.
The first vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko gave more details about success of Ukrainian delegation. According to the text, they were able to convey all information to colleagues in Assembly regarding Ukrainian prisoners. Gerashchenko thanked all her colleagues in the delegation. In three-minute speech they managed to cover all the horrors of Kremlin’s political prisoners and Ukrainian demands on their release.
Also, Iryna Gerashchenko specified each issue on which Ukrainian speakers dwelled on. According to her, Ukraine’s position is to liberate all the captives of Kremlin from Kremlin and Russian prison. Precisely this appeal is in resolution and precisely this way the Assembly has voted.
Also Gerashchenko said that on the same day when in Strasbourg resolution on Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and political prisoners of the Kremlin was discussed, Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova once again is denied in a visit to Oleg Sentsov.
Nevertheless, every victory has its small share of dissatisfied ones. Among them, political consultant Mykola Spiridonov. He said that this won’t change anything and Ukrainian delegation is already causing clear annoyance among many Europeans. According to expert, this negatively affects the image of Ukraine. Well. If someone can get bored with numerous talks about our guys behind the bars of Moscow, we will go on, Mr. Mykola. It’s strange that you do not understand it.
