During 2018, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission recorded 55 dead among the civilian population in the area of hostilities in the Donbas. This is the lowest annual civilian death toll for the entire period of the war, said Fiona Fraser, head of the UN human rights monitoring mission during a briefing in Kyiv.

“In 2018, we recorded 279 civilian casualties – 55 people were killed and 224 injured. This is two times less than civilian casualties in 2017 and the lowest annual civilian casualties for the entire period of the conflict,” Fraser said.

She also reported that from November 16, 2018, to February 15, 2019, the mission recorded the smallest casualties among the civilian population for all periods. In particular, two were killed, and another 11 men and three women were injured. In general, since the beginning of the war, according to a monitoring mission, more than 3,000 civilians were killed and 9,000 wounded.
