In Transcarpathia, the Rehabilitation Commission has decided on a political prisoner, Ivan Myron, who spent 25 years at the Gulag.

Today, on March 7, the Regional Rehabilitation Commission, which was established at the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, voted for sending a well-grounded proposal to the Rehabilitation Commission for the rehabilitation of Ivan Myron. DUMKA published the story of a man of a complicated fate last year in spring, we emphasized the need for his rehab.

Among the verdicts, Ivan Myron has been accused of “terrorist acts”, “counterrevolutionary and anti-Soviet activity” and “treason”. Since there were not only political but purely criminal articles in his case “banditry” due to the attack on the guardian of the village council, Ivan Myron was refused in rehabilitation already in times of independent Ukraine. Reviewing his case in 1995, the court decided to change the names adding “state treachery”, guided by the Criminal Code of 1961.

That’s why the issue of Myron’s rehab was touched upon numerous times but only with the adoption of the law which alleviates the process of rehabilitation, it became possible. Now, the materials and results of Regional Commission work will be taken into consideration by the National Rehabilitation Commission which will make the final decision. In Transcarpathia, they hope this process to be as fast as possible.
