Shevchenkivskyi Court partially satisfied the prosecutor’s request to dismiss the chairman of the Kherson regional council Vladyslav Manger from his post. Manger is suspected of organizing the murder of activists Kateryna Handzyuk. It is noted that Manger was suspended from office for a month – until April 6.
According to the publication, the prosecutor’s office requested a 2-month suspension, underlining the fact that staying it the office, the suspect would exert pressure on current and potential witnesses in the case, in particular, Kherson regional council employees, and may destroy evidence and impede the investigation.
It is reported that Manger’s lawyers objected to satisfaction of the petition, stating that the prosecution had insufficient evidence of Manger’s involvement in the murder of Handzyuk.
They also argued that all the efforts of the prosecutor’s office were from the outset aimed at removing Manger as a representative of the opposition from the post before the elections in Ukraine and stated that none of the workers of the regional council is a witness in the case, and the position of the suspect envisages only the organization of the work of 30 MPs.
“The suspect himself said that the case was politically motivated and that he doesn’t know any witnesses and cannot influence them. Manger added that immediately after he was charged, he was going on vacation for the time of the investigation,” the statement reads.
