The European Union supported the statement of the ambassadors of the G7 and the World Bank on the need to criminalize illegal enrichment in Ukraine.

The EU Delegation in Ukraine retweeted the corresponding statement in its Twitter, noting that “the EU is a part of G7.”

The G7 countries, together with the World Bank, urged the Ukrainian authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the effectiveness of anti-corruption legal institutions, restoring criminal responsibility for illegal enrichment in accordance with international standards.

They also called for a way to carry out dozens of investigations and prosecutions, which were put at risk by this decision.

Recall, on February 26 the Constitutional Court decided that the provisions of the article do not comply with the principles of the rule of law and the presumption of innocence. In particular, the article on illegal enrichment allegedly obliges the suspect to prove the legality of funds on his own.
