Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a law prohibiting Russian observers in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the status of the law on the website of the Verkhovna Rada. On February 26, the law was returned with the signature of the president.
From now on, the citizens of a country that the Council has recognized as an aggressor state or an invading state can not be official observers at the presidential, parliamentary and local elections. As well as citizens who participated in the observation process initiated by Russia. The explanatory note to the law states that the draft was developed “to minimize the risks and threats of Russian interference in the conduct of elections in Ukraine”.
The initiators of the bill indicated with reference to the Security Service of Ukraine that Russia is preparing an “unprecedented interference in the Ukrainian elections” and expects to spend about 350 million USD on the work of its special services.
