The authors also draw attention to the fact that Russia’s occupation of Crimea covers targeted repressions against Crimean Tatars, as well as those who continue to insist on their Ukrainian identity. There are 59 other countries and 5 territories stand beside Ukraine in the section of “partially free” countries. There are only 50 “non-free” countries, including Russia, as well as 8 territories. “Free” countries and territories together make up 87. In total, the report analyzed 209 countries and territories.
