The Russians do not care about the war against Ukraine or the invasion of Syria. They are dissatisfied with Moscow because of the economic downturn. But in order to revive it, Vladimir Putin will need external investment. And military adventures will interfere with their influx. This was on the air of Bloomberg TV channel director of the Eurasia Group on Ukraine and Russia Alex Bridow.

“It is interesting that the internal factors played an important role. For example, many people were upset by raising the retirement age. So, it’s not at all in foreign policy, not in Russia’s actions in Ukraine, Syria, or elsewhere. The focus is internally. And it speaks a lot about the challenges faced by the Russian economy over the next few years during the new Putin presidential term,” Bridow said.

He also drew attention to the great tension between the Russian autocrat and the EU leaders. And in the first place, the war in Ukraine contributes to this.
