The last bank in Crimea, which issued maps of international payment systems, “Genbank, announced the suspension of service cards for payment systems Visa and MasterCard. This is reported by the BBC.
As stated in the “Genbank”, the decision to terminate Visa and MasterCard transactions was made in connection with the introduction of sanctions against Russian banks in 2014.
They are replaced by the “World” cards of the National System of Payment Cards of the Russian Central Bank.
“Genbank has moved to the “World” card since January 2007. Reissue is from January, a message was sent to the Bank’s clients several times with invitations to receive the card, which is the last warning for those clients who did not have time to address for one reason or another,” said the specialist of call center “Genbank”.
How many cards have been reissued – yet unknown. Until 2017, in addition to the “Genbank” card of international payment systems Visa and MasterCard issued only the bank “Rublev”, but in June this year, the Central Bank has withdrawn its license.
Visa and MasterCard stopped serving customers in Crimea after the United States imposed sanctions on Russia for the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea in the spring of 2014.
